2022 October Letters as History

The Winchester Historical Society provided historical postcards with photos of Winchester Town Common from 1910, Town Hall, and other local points of interest, including a trolley that ran throughout the area, through Winchester. One went from Stoneham to Arlington, another from Woburn to Medford. The fare was one nickel.

2022 July 16th on the Common

With vintage postcards courtesy of the Winchester Historical Society showing photos of the common from 1910, Letters Trellis welcomed letter writers during the market of July 16th.

13 of the cards were written and posted by Letters Trellis, and 11 were taken home to be completed - some writers did not have addresses handy.   Of the 13 pieces of stationery used, 7 letters were stamped and mailed by Letters Trellis.

2022 June 17th - Under the Oak Tree

Letters Trellis returned to the Winchester Farmers Market on June 17th, with many visitors who wrote letters and postcards.   About 12 letters were written and 9 postcards. With the grant from the Winchester Cultural Council, Letters Trellis provided the stationery, envelopes, and postage to send these on their way.

Happy to be on the Town Common after two years in the parking lot.
Coloring sheets for kids were available and will continue with future appearances.

2021 July 17th: Postcards and Notecards

Our second event at the 2021 Farmers Market was on July 17th, featuring postcards of Town Hall reflected in the pond above Converse bridge.

---------------------------------------------------
The postcard: This free Letters Trellis postcard features Winchester Town Hall as reflected in Mill Pond above the waterfall from Mystic Valley Parkway. Turned upside down, the postcard photo shows Town Hall as right-side up, perhaps as viewed from a curtained window. You are invited to “turn upside down” the tradition of sending a postcard from afar; instead send news from your hometown area. Stop by the Letters Trellis tent to pick up the postcard. We’ll stamp and mail any cards completed at our writing desk and left with us at the tent.

Calligraphy notecards were also given away; here are some samples:

2021 Season at the Winchester Farmers Market begins June 19th.

A guest writes her letter at the writing desk between two trellises.

We also made about 20 personalized calligraphy notecards for visitors to the booth, to
encourage them to write a short note if a letter seemed to be a big challenge.
These are available at no charge, one to a customer.  Keeping the original and making copies
to write and send can make one special note card go a long way.
